Berbatov: Are Spurs being held to ransom?
Tottenham will insist on their valuation of Dimitar Berbatov being met before allowing the Bulgaria striker to leave White Hart Lane.
Berbatov missed Saturday's defeat to Sunderland after being deemed psychologically unfit and a threat to dressing-room harmony - and a repeat could see the 27-year-old feature in Clive Allen's reserve team.
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is believed to be willing to see Berbatov feature with the reserves if they do not receive a suitable offer for the frontman from Manchester United.
Spurs are understood to be looking for at least £30million for Berbatov - who has handed in a transfer request in pursuit of a move to Old Trafford - and they are waiting for a bid from United before the end of the transfer window.
Tottenham's next match is Sunday's Premier League trip to Chelsea, and they will hope Berbatov's future is resolved by then - whether he stays or the club receive funds for Ramos to spend before the following day's summer transfer deadline.
Ramos and Berbatov met on Sunday 24th August for more talks about the future of the £10.9million signing from Bayer Leverkusen, who has spent two years with Tottenham.
Tottenham have put the ball in United's court, and they must decide whether there is mileage left in their pursuit of the player.
Clearly Berbatov doesn't want to be at Tottenham any more - and with Spurs desperately needing time and money to bring in a replacemeent, United look likely to get him at a price far cheaper than they would have expected to a few weeks ago.
Has Berbatov played it fairly? Have Spurs made a huge mistake not selling him a few weeks ago? Or have he and United been taking Spurs for a ride the whole summer?

berbatov great player but someone should sit him down and explain what loyality is.the way he has handle this is a disgrace all that spurs have done for him he never gave the club and more importantly the fans a second thougth.bluemoon

Schmeical, 500k, cantona 1m, keane 3m, irwin 300k, ronaldo 13m @ age 17, Now as for berba, is he worth 30m? time will tell, but i know one thing for sure, hes better value than 20m for keane, wtf. If I were a spurs fan i would think berbatov is scum, i aint, and i cant wait to see what he can do with a quality team around him, cos regardless of what spurs fans say, they loved watching him as he was pure silk and the classiest thing to wear there shirt since hoddle.
He comes froma tiny footballing nation and has no chance of making a name for himself on the international scne as his country will never have the quality to qualify for a makor tournament therefore he wants to play at the highest club level he can, I admire himfor that. If a few more english players had a bit of guille and determination to reach the top instead of warming benches at chelsea n arsenal etc or playing the big fish in small ponds in mid table mediocracy, then perhaps watching England would not be such a huge turnoff........ one last thing, put your money on him to win prem & champs league golden boot this season..... he will definaztely show rooney where the net is this season. fergie to play rooney & tonaldo wide tevez & berba down the middle ..... man city have the money, man utd have the players .... cant wait for this excuse for football ( International week ) to be over so we can get back to some entertaining, fast paced football .... were gonna thump liverpool -
