Daily sport rant

Two questions are being asked of last night’s meaningless friendly against the USA. What didn’t Fabio try out a few of the fringe players? And why was Becks given a gold cap in a box? As of last night there were 16 of them for sale on Ebay.

England eased past America they way they always should. When you look at the line up of the team it’s hardly surprising. We had seven players who played in the Champions League final for goodness sake - Rooney, Brown, Ferdinand, Terry, the Coles and Hargreaves in addition to Gerrard. How the hell could we not qualify for Euro 2008?

The answer of course is Steve McClaren, the Wally with the brolly. This man should be sent to the Tower. He is almost solely responsible for a summer of sorrow for all England fans. We say almost solely because the players are never held accountable for playing badly, that’s just the way it is. It’s always the manager who falls on his sword or rather feels the cold blade of the axe on his neck.

McClaren must be given a punishment to fit the crime. He should be forced to coach Derby next season.

We didn't qualify because the whole set up is crap. Premiership clubs have no interest in the england team but have to be mindful of the duty to owners/shareholders - business, brands, profit and cash first and foremost. on top of that if the top 6 prem clubs are the only ones realistically going to play international club football then where do english players get the necessary experience? Prem clubs can buy experience or youth from around the world so once this crop of players age who will come in?
I think a combination of Platini's and FIFA's approach, introduced over say 5 years would help. The EC could make football a "special case employment" to support all EC national teams. Also where are the young coaches and managers coming through? Who is shadowing Cappello for say 4 years or so to learn his trade and beyond that? I like big C and I think we'll get to SA but after that who knows!

I think the days of getting on McClarens back are over. We should look on whats happened and learn from it. We need a manager that isn't frightened to upset the FA by his decisions, let the manager chose his teams and not be half governed by the FA. Does it matter wether he's foreign, English would be better but we need someone who can get the job done. Secondly, the team are over paid and with those wages who can blame them for not worrying if they win or lose, they're getting a fortune and thats all they're worried about. To many players know they're going to be in the next match whether they play appaulingly or brilliantly, they should earn their place as a good player, not because they are a premiership name. Look at the other leagues, there are plenty of good players in the championship that would play alot harder and better because they want to earn a place in the next game. The majority of the England team are lazy because they have no national pride or will to play hard because they're earning to much... No win No pay. There are some world class teams that don't get paid, they feel it payment enough and an honour just to be asked to play!

How hypercritcal- you lot all wanted an English manager and the media championed McClaren but what the hell did he do or any English manager for that matter. He was no good at Middlesborough so why get on his back now -no good then no good now.Its your own fault . Glad the media don't pick the bloody team!!! could have been worse- Allardyce-jeesus we could be playing football like Bolton if he had got it or Aston Villa for that matter. The England team are as boring as Chelsea at the moment-i am not too concerned about winning at any cost just winning in style-has to be a foreign coach flair and passion. Anyway who's bothered anyway -rather watch Spain Argentina, Brazil France than a lot of overpaid inflated ego English footballers-bunch of tossers -from a Man Utd supporter-now thats entertainment!!
