Daily sport rant

Two questions are being asked of last night’s meaningless friendly against the USA. What didn’t Fabio try out a few of the fringe players? And why was Becks given a gold cap in a box? As of last night there were 16 of them for sale on Ebay.

England eased past America they way they always should. When you look at the line up of the team it’s hardly surprising. We had seven players who played in the Champions League final for goodness sake - Rooney, Brown, Ferdinand, Terry, the Coles and Hargreaves in addition to Gerrard. How the hell could we not qualify for Euro 2008?

The answer of course is Steve McClaren, the Wally with the brolly. This man should be sent to the Tower. He is almost solely responsible for a summer of sorrow for all England fans. We say almost solely because the players are never held accountable for playing badly, that’s just the way it is. It’s always the manager who falls on his sword or rather feels the cold blade of the axe on his neck.

McClaren must be given a punishment to fit the crime. He should be forced to coach Derby next season.

yes McClaren might have had some say in the demise of england from this summers championships but i think the damage had already been done by the FA over the years through bad decisions over manegerial postings. The way these guys choose a manager for our national team must be laughable to those countries around the globe. When are these idoits going to realise that they are still living in the dark ages and until they change their attitude towards the modern game then we are going to win nothing in our lifetime.

Being the mother of three sons, two of which had trials for big clubs and played county football, I saw first hand prejudice, bullying, and yes may I say it a lack of funds, given that we had to buy the kit, Dads ferrying players to and from matches in their own cars, granted within an hour say hour/half. Natural ability, drive excitement coached out of talented players, to only do set movements, not have a tongue in their heads, to be used to fulfill fixtures, clubs never intending to keep them, over subscribe on their squads, etc etc, it is no wonder we cannot pick from the best, and foreign plays flooding the market, clubs have ruined the players before they are 16 in most cases. My own sons gave up football, one went and played rugby instead, dissapointed with verbal abuse. When are clubs going to realise under 9's 10's 11's and on and on are human being and not cannon fodder. respet grass roots and we might have more players to choose from in the future. one of my sons was laughed at for suggesting he may do AS/A2 levels and wanted to do well in his education. Also I witnessed some Dads trying to live out their own dreams through their sons playing football. If you do not look after the roots you will not get a flower!!
Beckham is still the best! oh and maybe Gerrard, and Lampart, and Ferdinand in fact anyone who can survice the youth system needs a gold medal!

England will qualify, but they will only qualify because it is a garbage group. They will scrape through like they always do,by winning 1-0 or drawing 0-0.The games they play in their group will be the most boring games of the campeign.

The trouble with this country where football is concerned,is we are living in a dilutional world. We are not the best football team around like we are told by the stupid biased tabloids and newspapers and reporters. The fact of the matter is,we are just not good enough at world level by a mile. We've had 4 years to qualify for europe and get a team ready for the championships and we have failed to do it in a rubbish group, where the only half decent team was croatia. We cant do the basic thing in football which is keeping the ball, and that is because we do not have enough players who have got the technical ability to keep the ball or control it properly.Even the so called lesser inexperienced teams of world football can keep the ball far better than we can.As for blaming the premiership for englands failure..that is a load of rubbish,if the english players were good enough they would be playing. The fact of the matter is we breed bad players. The good players that come through are not allowed to expresss their quality,we are too direct in our mentality. The premiership is only as good as it is because it is littered with quality foreign players, take them away and you are left with a pile of junk, which shows when england play. The sooner this country wakes up to the fact that we are miles behind everybody else, the sooner we'll go forward. No managers credentials will get england out of this state,It goes deeper than that,we need to go back to the basics of controling and keeping hold of the ball, and that needs to be bred into the young kids that want to be footballers at an early age.Bringing managers in with so called reputations will get us no where. They are in it for the stupid amounts of money that are thrown at them by the cabbages that are called the FA.
