Fantastic or farcical? Send us your views on the 2007 Cricket World Cup final and the tournament in general. Has it lived up to your expectations and what are your abiding memories?
Sour grapes , it would appear , from the Sri Lankan contributors to this discussion . Australia would have defeated them rain , hail , or shine . The weather gave Aust. the cup ?? No such excuse searching from the Aussies following a defeat by Bangladesh just before the ashes defeat some years ago ! No recriminations . They lost ! That was it ! Take it on the chin , whether you live in Leicester or in Jaffna . You lost ! It's up to you to improve , not the victorious . Tom Moody withdrew Murili & Vaas from the initial game with Aust and to the devil with the paying public that wished to see the world's best exponents of the game..... at every game!! The Aussies had not seen them for 18 months . That was the logic . Both were treated with contempt in the final .
Australians were good but this time they were just so lucky. Miss fielding led Gilchrist to 149 and the bad weather led Australians to the world cup.
That wasn't a fair game. So we take SRI LANKANS are the winners of word cup 2007.
bad weather gave the world cup to the aussies. We desearved the world cup, we just lost our rhythem when the rain poured down. Our guys are the best. long live sri lanka.
I thought the whole hype of the cricket world cup was a farce. The Islands were meant to gain from this big world wide event, but instead the locals were pushed aside to make way for the big corporate companies, the stands were empty because local could not afford tickets, the claim that that the final was sold ou, this only happened because at the last minute they saw that the stands were going to be empty and they had already lost a whole lot of revenue from the previous games in the other Islands. This is no hog wash I am from one of those Islands with connection in majority of the rest Barbados being one of them so what I am stating is coming direct from the locals themselves. Not edited for the benefit good PR for the organisers and sponsors. The whole thing was a shambles from start to finish.
Englands Cricket Team was selected on the past reputation of players and not the best performing players of the present time. They took players to Australia who were not fully fit. Who also hadn't performed with either bat or ball after their return from injury. The captain Vaughan was an example of this. They were therefore at a disadvantage immediately having players included with negative thoughts and little confidence of winning. Their performances suffered and reflected this. The Team selection requires drastic changes if they are to begin winning again consistently. Players need to prove themselves before being considered again for selection. The England football Team made the same mistake at the last World Cup Finals by taking Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen, both injured and not fully match fit from injury.
