Big Brother - Should the police be able to demand ID anytime?

Police and immigration officers will be able to stop anyone and demand proof of identity under proposed new powers to be announced. Anybody who refuses the Big Brother demand could face arrest and a possible prison sentence. The move would effectively take Britain back to the Second World War, when people were stopped and asked to 'show their papers'. What do you think? Should the police be able to demand ID anytime?

I should be able to walk down the street at my own pleasure and will, without anybody stopping me and questioning me.The majority of Police officers are bullies who love the power the uniform gives them.I.D cards will just give them even more reasons to antaginise decent folk just going about their daily business.
AND WINSTon FROM LonDon,what on earth does this have to do with hoodies??

If a Police Officer is to ask for your ID are you entitled to check theirs first to ensure that they are an officer of the law!! You could have an ID stand-off and waste no end of valuable police time whilst the criminals happily go about their business uninterrupted by such trivial matters.

    fred from sussex :
ID cards like everything else will be cloned and abused by the very people the government wish to catch out!
Wasting taxpayers money on such hair brained schemes in my opinion is futile, it wont resolve any issues it will create futher problem!
