Big Brother - Should the police be able to demand ID anytime?

Police and immigration officers will be able to stop anyone and demand proof of identity under proposed new powers to be announced. Anybody who refuses the Big Brother demand could face arrest and a possible prison sentence. The move would effectively take Britain back to the Second World War, when people were stopped and asked to 'show their papers'. What do you think? Should the police be able to demand ID anytime?

If you have nothing to hide what's the problem? I would happily show my ID if it helped sort out some of the problems this country has.

this is a double edged sword the government has had resistance to i`d cards well how do you think you can show id if you don`t carry it ? at this moment in time it is not law that you have to have it on you so some little thickie stuck in the corner of an office somewhere has come up with this idea as a way to make it easier to introduce id cards it`s all a bit to obvious really better put the thickie back in the corner of the office and start ignoring him again

Thank God we are such a disobedient and rebellious nation or the authorities could walk all over us and get away with it, the public will never be beaten if they stand up for their rights.

Police have the powers to stop someone if they have reasonable suspision they are carrying stolen property, weapons or items that are to be used to complete a crime. I think these powers would be very beneficial to people, it'll bring the police to communicate with the general public and for the many vulnerable people out there, they'll feel safer in their communiity knowing the police have those extra powers to assist them.
