Smoking ban debate

Smoking ban debate

The ban on smoking in public places, which came into effect in England on 1st July 2007, has been a complete success, with 400,000 people kicking the habit in the last twelve months, according to a survey by Cancer Research UK. Do you agree that the ban has been successful?

i`ve had a brain wave if the government installed old b t phone boxes with ventilation in pubs with pound slots on door then smokers could go in and still talk to others in side the bars and if the procedes went to the taxman how long would it take before the ban was lifted. if i bought a drink for the people either side of me at the bar if they didn`t object to me lighting up how many would refuse it if the ban didn`t exist..

The Smoking ban has lead to more people drinking at home where they can have a smoke in peace. Watch the number of alcoholics increase over next few years coz at least theres 'last orders' in the pub, You can drink all day and all night at home if you want.

I thought more people died from Alcohol related incidents than smoking? I know more people hurt from drinking than smoking, but it depends on who ya listen too. i dont smoke and have no problem with smoking anywhere, Pubs are dead, more people outside than in? Pubs closing, just what the government wants.. You all In doors by 8pm, as theres nowhere to go?

    Good morning everyone.
It would seem to me, in these times of hardship and uncertainty, that there is a certain pointlessness to life.
I then hereby give to you the poem for today, and hope that you will respond in kind.
Without permission we dragged into life,
    just a sticky blubbering mess.
Adults cry out, 'its him or like her,
grownups are just stupid I guess.
    People crowd round burbling coochy-coo,
to the small lump of blue flesh and goo.
You want to crawl back from whence you came,
do you remember it happening to you.
You are handed about like pass the parcel,
to queues of people wanting to see.
The supposed bundle of joy all wrapped up in white,
to view the thing that has now been set free.
The view is that you will not talk for some time,
maybe a year or so til you walk.
A couple of years before you fully understand,
but hey are wrong, you take in the talk.
From the TV you learn the cold facts of life,
like terrorism, war, and high crime.
Of earthquakes, flooding, and famine to boot,
you were not born to have a good time.
From your playpen you view the world at its worst,
to your eyes the world seems war torn.
You look at your parents going grey with the strain,
and you wonder. 'Why on earth was I born'?

I don't have a problem with smoking as long as people don't blow smoke over me.
Having smoked myself for over thirty years I do know that it can't possibly do you any good.
At the very least I can stand against the bar without suffering clouds of smoke from inconsiderate people.
