Are young people at risk from cannabis-induced psychotic illness?

A report published in the Lancet claims that smoking cannabis increases the risk of psychotic illness by 40%. With use of the drug ever more prevalent among teenagers, are you concerned that young people are increasingly likely to develop mental health problems?

I know people on the cannabis who have been smoking it for years for relaxation and they are fine, but when I had it I had to cling onto a wall for fear of falling off, and I developed paranoia-I ended up in A psychiatric hospital and I don't think the cannabis helped! Also my sis had to stop it as it affected her adversly too. I think some people are more vulnerable than others-maybe a genetic thing!

Yes we all know drugs are adictive and do terible things to the health and mind. But you can,t always blame drugs for how a individual behaves. With alot of teenagers today there up bringing has as much to do with their mental health as the drugs do. Maybe if some parents did a better job and set more boundries and comunicated and cared more for their kids.Maybe they wouldn,t turn to drugs at all.

SMOKING DAN, what a hypocrite you are handing out fines for other wrong doers! Just because you bought 4 children does not mean that smoking it is good and clever.
It rots your brain and sends you loopy. Stealing becomes second nature,as does hurting those closest to you.
And SMOKIN DAN a credit to your kids for seeing that drugs are for pathetic losers who are a waste of space, shame they can not be proud to have a clean healthy father.
    GET A LIFE.

I am sick of hearing that cannabis is not addictive the mind believes otherwise and i know from experience of a partner who wouldn't believe me that its mentally addictive it causes no end of problems they behave like any other substance addicted person they will do anything to get it as they think that it calms them and help to concentrate how wrong they are. I am glad to say that after a 10yr battle with him hes off it and can see what it does to people on it. He went through a lot of side affects when he stopped stomach ache, headaches, cramps, excess sweating, anger, hostile, paranoid, sleeplessness, he was almost climbing the walls. A year and half later you can talk and get a conversation no more flying off the handle, smashing things, fighting or stressing other then a normal person but he still suffers paranoia and depression because that stuff messes with your mind i wish kids would listen and stop thinking that its clever and they can take it or leave it believe me it bad news and theres no help to get off it either.

When you are affected personally by cannabis usage you can comment. Some people are more damaged by cannabis than others it depends on how fragile your brain is or if you have a chemical imbalance in the first place. Cannabis is addictive and those who do not want it declassified are addicted. It does cause damage users might not believe it causes them any damage ask their friends and families what they think are they paranoid and depressed etc.
