The body of a pensioner may have lain undiscovered for five years in an Edinburgh city centre flat
there's always a gaga like sheila from manchester, -what on earth has a p.m. who has been gone over a decade and a half got to do with uncaring neighbours and social services
As said someone before, its a sad reflection on modern city life..everyone in so much of a rush and so wrapped up in themselves and their own lives that no-one spares 2minutes in their day to ask if an elderly neighbour is ok. Sadly I wouldn't be surprised if the neighbours knew she lived there or even her name.... RIP Mrs Purvis
have to agree with the comments about social services , also the local council must have not been payed their council tax - unless as has been suggested all by direct debit ( unlikely i would have thought ) , mind you not at all surprised , we had a similar case not far from me - lady been there at least 3 years - no one gave a stuff , , there are a LOT of lonely and socially isolated people in this country - we don't ALL have this mythical "support group" much beloved of government "experts" , many have NO friends AND families who don't give a c**P .
as to raising awareness ?? yea right , people think that its not THEIR problem , and are just not interested , never be surprised if it did not happen to me too .
To lucy from west midlands. when i moved to the area i live now been here eight years, people did,nt speak to me. they where abit took some time then everyone started speaking. some do talk behind my back but that is human nature, i try to be pleasent to all.
how very sad, but for God's sake Sheila from Manchester, you're even blaming Maggie Thatcher for this? If Mrs T was a sad old lady living near you would you not bother checking to see if she was ok then? We have a lot of elderly neighbours and do our best to help them all out as and when necessary - and we're Tories - hope that doesn't upset your theory too much...
