Being a police dog handler is an ideal way of getting off the beat if you are not interested in promotion. I would stop the officer responsible for this from ever being a dog handler again and put him back on street patrol so that he would have one of three choices. He could either take more interest in his career and seek promotion, he could accept where he is and learn to live with it, or lastly he could resign. Perhaps someone ought to ask how many police dogs after a hard working life are put to sleep and given no retirement for their long service and loyalty. What's the betting that freedom of information will not extend to giving you this bit of sensitive information.
