Shadow chancellor George Osborne will be investigated by a sleaze watchdog over his second home allowance claims
Oh come on! What the heck is wrong with some of you people? He's a politician - this is what politicians do. How can anybody be surprised/shocked? Have politicians anywhere ever been any different? It's the nature of the beast. We only tolerate them because, a: somebody's got to do the job (so long as it's hopefully not us), and, b: none of us can be bothered to come up with a better system (we're comfy even if it is wrong - we can't be bothered with the change). We're not happy, but apart from the deluded few who believe politicians should be 'good', we're not surprised. Think about it, really, what kind of person is attracted to a politicians life?
Money grabbing b*******s
Just looked at my spread-sheet again and there are 214 MP`s who claimed more than Osbourne. The highest claimant is Scot Eric Joyce. He claimed £187,334. Mr Joyce and his family have lived in London for a long time. His wife is a headmistress at a London area school and his children have been educated in London. He claims that a two bedroom flat in Falkirk is his `main home` so that he can claim expenses on his `second home` in London and lavish his expenses on that.
if you had watched the debate you would have thought that the tories were dead against it. they were'nt. we have two things that parliament cannot touch. even with 100% support of m.p.'s. first is magna carta second is bill off rights of 1689 i think. the latter will not allow any interference in parliament whatsoever and if a proceedings were set in motion against an mp they could not interfere in so many different aspects of parliament would be practically impossible. a quagmire comes to mind. so they are really trying to find some other way. these were rights extracted from the monarchy to protect OUR rights.
thats my take anyway. i'm off hope it helps cya
Much appreciate the clarification Groucho - indeed I heard Jack Straw on world at one yesterday, say something to the effect that amendements were necessary to get cross party support - many thanks. Were fortunate to have your factual input too Grubber37 - the reporting of facts as opposed to rumours is vitally important in this highly charged atmosphere. Doubtless the expertise you've volunteered will be called upon to answer more salient questions.
