Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs could be free within days after Justice Secretary Jack Straw agreed to grant him parole, it has been reported
compare him to the killers of jamie bulger, they got out early and are living the life of riley, let him out for gods sake
well said jack stern from london !!! and absolutely true !!! so come on all you pontificating lot, advocating that this wicked criminal be kept inside until death ! what about all the other criminals who have committed horrendous crimes, and yet only receive sentences of a few years as punishment ? don't hear anything from you about them !!!
Trevor, grow up and read the facts of the case, jack mills the train driver that took a belt round the ear-hole didnt die from his injuries, it was 7 years later that he died from Leaukemnia, the prosicution made a bigger issue of that slap than it really was. Yes its wrong to hurt others whilst your commiting a robbery, but come on some bank / security van blaggers have discharged weapons and got less of a sentence. it was a BIG media case at the time, and all that hype surrounding it also put pressure on the judiciary to hand out stiff sentences, totally out of preportion to the actual crime, i think biggs has served what would have been appropiate for that offence, plus he;'s a sick old man now, and its costing more to keep him locked up than freeing him.
Someone died of his injuries,If they hadnt robbed the train that guy may still be alive,Millions of pounds, living the life of riley for thirty plus years,Then only coming back because he was ill and couldnt afford health care over in brazil, doesnt make him a honest hero,He should not see daylight again now,IMO.
If you steal just £1 or 2 & a 1/4 million pounds, its still a crime, although you would most likely be dealt with a caution for just £1, whereas 2 &1/4 million for some reason warrants a 30 year sentence, how is this president set? compare that sentence with what you would recieve for offences against the person i.e. sexual molestation of a child or assault, and even taking someones life, it would be very rare if you recieved 30 years, how can a modern civilised society put a higher value on money over human life. In the Gt train robbers case the Judiciary were under pressure from the Govt at the time to make an EXAMPLE, and the only case of child murder that got a comparable sentence was the Moors Murderers they happened around the same period, but that was a one off, in general you get less for a life than you do for stealing, that sort of goes someway into answering why we have such a high murder rate, and a very high crime rate in general.
