Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs could be free within days after Justice Secretary Jack Straw agreed to grant him parole, it has been reported
Supergran - The sentencing of those who get a few years is wrong, Biggs sentence is right he recieved 30 years, escaped after 15 months and lived a free man for over 30 years. The Sun brought him back in 2001. by your logic 10 years is enough for someone involved in a robbery where a man was beaten with an axe handle suffering injuries that he never fully recovered from. So you consider that 10 years is enough for that. I think that is totally wrong, he does not deserve to be released but the bleeding heart liberals of this country sem to think Biggs is some sort of anti-hero. No he is a criminal who has never shown any remorse for his crime quite the opposite in fact as Biggs himself said "I don't regret the fact that I was involved in the train robbery,"
"As a matter of fact I'm quite pleased with the idea that I was involved in it... because it's given me a little place in history... I've made a mark for myself.
so its ok the live the high life after originally escaping, then come back when you need treatment. i think the saying " if you cant do the time dont do the crime" applies more here than anyone else. Biggs was sentenced a bottled it...he should never be freed. People want stiffer sentences for those convicted of crimes where people are hurt or killed, but apparently these people would not be distressed if these criminals did not serve thier full sentence by running away. Jack Mills never fully recovered from the beating he took at the hands of these violent men, he was forced to serve his sentence why not Biggs.
A lot bigger fish than Biggs have spent a lot less time in prison than he has for more serious offences and gone on to commit further crime after release. I can't see Biggs being capable of further crime on release. This is all about the establishment wanting Biggs to show remorse for what he has done and being able to say that the prison system has worked by breaking his spirit. Jack Straw does himself no favours by pretending to act tough when in reality he has no spine. There is no real benefit by keeping Biggs inside but from a cost point of view it will probably be no cheaper to look after him in the community due to his poor health and his need for constant care which of course will have to be picked up by the taxpayer. There are far more important issues for the government to worry about than an old train robber living on dreams and borrowed time.
totally agree,well said-'trev from barnsley'
they want there pound of flesh because he stuck 2 fingers up to the establishment mind they forget about the m/ps who have been doing it for years you total up what they have had away between them and i bet its more than the train robbers had and do you see any of them off to jail for 30 years never happen
