but it wasn't, and it wasn't in his case either! your arguement was a life was lost so 30 years is appropriate, when no life was lost. just a bloke with a knock on the head and a load of money stolen. there are definately crimes being commited that warrant 30 year sentences, but theft isn't one of them, no matter how much money was stolen and even if someone gets a bump on the head!!!

Remember people these type of people do not work alone and it takes months even years to plan such an event if you can call it that ! Look at Azal Nadir in the late nineties he was having problems in business after once being one of the U Ks richest men and look what he planned and did he managed to fly ot of the uk back to Cyprus hi home land and the authorities could not do a thing about it ! He can not be made to be brought back to the uk as Cyprus is his homeland oh and by the way he will be remembered as the man who used to wear brand new silk shirts each day and after wearing a shirt once bin it and on to the next ! lol eh ? he did leave a few debts behind here mind you but never mind eh ? he lives like a king in Cyprus good luck to him i say a man who has beaten the system !

But did they also rob a train Tom,let's keep to the point. IMO, anyone who inflicts an injury purposefully on another person deserves all the punishment meted out to them, such as in your case,Itrust you fully recovered, but it could so easily, heaven forbid, been a fatal blow. See what I mean?

joe, he wasn't severely battered, he was knocked on the head, don't over exagerate! i was once beaten unconscious by about 10 blokes leaving me with a fractured scull. i wouldn't expect them blokes to get 30 years though if they'd been caught, because 30 year sentences should be reserved for serious crimes, not something as minor as assault. the fact is they tried to make an example by passing an over the top sentence. i'm not saying he's a hero either, just a thief that should have been given a more fitting sentence!
