Prime Minister Gordon Brown has set out his legislative programme for the last few months before the general election
Personally I think the Duke of Devonshire was hard done by. If you ever paid rates, on the reverse side of the bill was every facet that came under the rate banner.
Health. I should imagine that the Duke had private medicine. Education. I should imagine that the Duke sent his kids private. Police. My police tell my that 75% of local crime is commited by people living on the council estate. Cemetary. I should imagine that the Duke had a burial plot on his estate. Library. I should imagine that the Duke had a bigger library in his castle. Road sweeper. I should not imagine that the local road sweepers went on to the Dukes estate. Swimming poll. I imagine that the Duke would have had his own. Street lighting. I should imagine that the Duke had twenty or thirty footman holding torches whenever he walked or drove down his roads. The list goes on and on. In fact it would appear that the Duke got very little for the poll tax he paid. Typical Nu-Labour envy.
jeez what a mind set.....talks about someone living with other people but completely forgets (conveniently) the litlle old lady on her own with a pension from her husbands work paying same as a duke......now if that don't show you the real meaness of some then nothing ever will....i'm totally amazed anyone could put that up..dear dear me what sort of people have we in this country....i just can't believe it.
the duke of devonshire was the one i was quoting.... he said macmillan would never have done this in the same article he wrote...it was the start of her downfall long before hezeltine started on her ......he was talking about "one nation" tories which at that time i supported .......
Clairvoyant now, are we.
When the poll tax came out my mother-in-law was living with us she did not pay as much as me or my wife and kids, she had a concession. So she did not pay as much as the Duke of Devonshire. Another bit of Nu-Labour mis-information.
