Temperatures plunged to nearly 12C 104F across southern England after the coldest night of the country's freezing spell
My neighbour lives off £46 a week. She cannot work because she was beaten up very badly over 2 years ago that put her in hospital for nearly a month. She smokes and drinks too much because she cannot put her mind into gear because of the headaches and depression. Its pitiful to see, but she wont claim any of the other benefits she is entitled to because she thinks she will be able to work again. She keeps trying. I do not understand how some people get £100's a week. She is slipping through the so called safety net. She will not even claim the social tarriff for her gas and electric because she is too proud.
Ni from Eastern England, you are right, every one on benefits is lumped together and labeled lazy and work shy, just as single mothers according to some must have had their children to claim benefits, there are women and men who are left with children to bring up because their husbands or partners have deserted them. before people go off on a tangent about people on benefits they should find out their history as to why they are on benefits. yes i agree some people are lazy and do have children to gain payouts but not every body. homeless people are not all drug addicts, i know of one man who was in the army and had a medal for bravery. when he came home he could not settle down and now wanders around the British isles he was mentally disturbed because of what he had seen and been through in the Falklands war, he is my nephew.
To ni from eastern england. You live on benefits and can save (but dont) and take your kids away 3 times a year. Can you give me advice on how to get a better deal for a working woman and her made redundant husband? You come across as someone who has worked but now has to get every penny from the govt that you are entitled to, we dont know where to start. TG.
Matt from Grantham - I would love to go out to work its easier, in fact on my day off I do voluntary work ie; unpaid, as the rest of the time I look after a disabled child. I have not always been on benefits and hate it, but have to accept the situation. I had to give -up my mortgaged home to live in an adapted one, whilst loosing most of the equity, all for the best of my child. I dont want sympathy or anything just understanding that not everyone on benefits is lazy - thank you. Yes it's cold, but have known worse and believe worse is yet to come.
ni from eastern england - I work very hard but I cannot afford to take my child away three times a year. We do not smoke, go to bingo, or wear the latest fashions, and our budget is quite tight, but we still can't go away for even one holiday, let alone three.
Get off benefits and live in the real world and see how well off you are supporting lazy people like yourself.
