Dewsbury MP and government minister Shahid Malik called for an independent review into the contacts social services had with Shannon Matthews prior to her disappearance in February
It is about parents taking responsibility for their actions. The state is taking the parental obligations away from them. Old fashioned morals updated need to be implemented. New cultures coming to our shores also contribute to diluting people's ethics.

Okay so the standard of English used is not as good as everyone may like but DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP POINTING THAT OUT??

Well said some folk like me are dyslexic some may not even be able to read or write properly because of the woefull state of our education system these days.
It is as you say what people have to say that matters we all have a right to contribute or comment without criticism and even better without undue moderation from thought police on this and many other boards on the internet in this country.

Let them contribute, THEIR opinion is JUST as important as YOURS.
At least they are contributing. WHAT have you contributed but a correction, which can also be seen as IGNORANCE. Get a life.
obedia from Harrogate 17:40 "put it to bed, move on and get over it" Oh ok you mean ignore all the failings and just wait for the next case of child neglect, torture and murder do you?
Infact, wasn't there another baby in the news today, shaken to death by her father?
Yes, you are right that the GUILTY person in this case has been punished and Shannon is better off without her BUT there are lots of other cases that still need to be kept high profile in the public domain so that changes will be made, THIS TIME.
Don't you like confrontation? Then bury your head and let others post, debate, complain and protest, as the majority of the public want change, as is obvious by the depth of feeling being posted on these boards by ppl who have heard and seen enough and who want to see children are not just "forgotten" as you seem to advocate.
The public response to Baby P has, imo, helped highlight a serious deficiency still present after the last catastrophic injustice by a dept supposedly there to protect children, Victoria Climbe, remember her?
This is going on everywhere, not just in Haringey.
Your "move on, get over it" is an insulting comment to make when thinking of Baby P and others like him. All I can say is shame on you.
Find somebody to carry the can, sack them, and then carry on as before until the next case.
I understand social services have case conferences to decide the best course of action, it might help if lay people were appointed to act for a child, asking pertinent questions that the child itself might ask and also being involved in the deciosion making - it would at least introduce an independent element and remove a little of the burden put on social services to always get it right
What people need to understand is that even abused and ill treated children love their parents even if they are the abusers and those that are put into care run away back to the abusing parents. If more children are to be put into care then a lot more foster parents are going to be needed because children's homes are not the answer.
