Dewsbury MP and government minister Shahid Malik called for an independent review into the contacts social services had with Shannon Matthews prior to her disappearance in February
For all those that think taking children in to care is straight forward, let me tell you its far from that... have you tried standing b4 a judge, and get cross examined by the parents solicitors, by the way these parents may be convicted child abusers.. but yet, we social workers still have to get slammed in the court arena.
Oh... and once we get the go ahead from the courts to ermoce a child, how many of you are willing to be assessed as foster carers? I'm assuming you all know that there is a national shortage of foster carers in the uk
Niklas from Scotland 22:27 Like I said EVERYonE has right to comment regardless, as long as ppl get the point being made that is what matters. And NO I am not "dumbing down" to make life easier, we just have to accept that there are other reasons, such as dyslexia, for some poorly typed contributions, it doesn't take away from the "intelligent" points that are made within that badly written piece.
I dare say my own aren't always perfect, so it's a get out clause. lol x
Social worker from Middlesbrough says:Dec 6, 20:03
I think they needs to be more thought to all of this as i think the childrens act 1989 and other legislation that was brought in after the butler sloth report has made it very hard to keep children in the care system as the cra 1989 puts the rights of the mother or father over the rights of the child even though we know they child may be harmed or removed from the uk we have our hands tied by the law so change the law.

I answered your post but it seems the moderators are averse to anyone disagreeing with a social worker.
So I guess as we are posting in the moderators echo chamber you will only get the replies they feel fit to let b you see.
A bit like the social work deparment itself.

because children's homes are not the answer.

You are so right Jon these home are certainly not the answer the amount of abuse in council childrens homes over the decades that have been whitewashed over is a disgrace.
The most recent being the one in the news recently that the police say cant be uinvestigated because the events happed a way back in the 70s.
Personally I would have thoght that many folk from that era that worked at the time of these these abuses would be very much alive and therefore be available for questioning.
But perhaps tourism is more important than the poor kids having a voice is mpore important.
Actually I think the "new cultures" who come to the shores take their lead from the decadent faction) of which they are many) of the settled locals.
