Can London compete with Beijing in 2012?

Although Britain’s athletes shone at the Beijing Olympics, the UK has been ridiculed for its role in the handover ceremony

Boris Johnson was labelled as 'arrogant, rude and disrespectful' by critics of his handling of the flag and the speech in which he proclaimed “ping pong is coming home”. Leona Lewis, Jimmy Page and David Beckham’s performances also came in for criticism, with bloggers branding the whole thing ridiculous.

However, the show put on by the Chinese has been received with nothing but praise. Do you think that London can live up to its promises for 2012 despite concerns over the budget? Or will GB become the laughing stock of the world?

    Quite simply - no
We only got the games 'cos a judge pressed the wrong button by mistake - and has admitted so'
A revote should have been insisted upon and we could have been saved from this overly priced abortion.
Nothing in this counrty is our own - as in British - it's all foreign owned and run but we pay for it - we are the laughing stock and whipping boy of the world - and will be even more so after this debacle.

The only chance is a dogs chance. Now that we are practically in the EUSSR I have this gut feeling that the French will take it away from us sometime in 2010 .When it realised that London staging this charade will be a complete abortion as nothing will be ready with mounting cost and the country in deep due to the recession or we are already bankrupt. The other thing is we will be the last country to come out of this recession because our home grown industries are freign controlled. No thanks to the unelected Mr Brown.
