Defence Secretary Des Browne has taken the blame after two of the sailors captured by Iran sold their stories saying "ultimately, the buck stops here".
Conservative leader David Cameron has demanded an inquiry and Mr Browne himself has said, "clearly with hindsight I could have made a different decision".
Should Des Browne resign over the decision to allow the sailors to sell their stories? Do you agree with the angry backlash that has greeted the publication and broadcast of the accounts? Do the sailors have every right to profit from their captivity or does it set a dangerous precedent? Let us know what you think.
ministerial responsibity is only one of the honourable traditions that have been forgotten in the last ten years.
why should he it wasn't him that got caught what we should be looking at is how these so called soldiers managed to get caught. Browne made mistakes as everybody does he should have said no but these so called soldiers should not have put him in this position does he need to hold there hands if you make a mistake in your job you carry the can not your bosses.
Definetely, soldiers are paid to do their jobs and shouldn't be aloud saling the storys in any sercumstances. what if every proffesinals in this country like doctors and solisitors etc. started to do thesame, ha? redicules the whole situation. If someone doesn't take the consequences for it ,then it will be more situatins like this.
Should Des Browne resign? No, of course not. All the critics are using the wrong data - things have improved greatly. This is the standard response of the Labour Party to criticism.
New Labour always pressed the Tories for resignations when a member of the then Government fouled up. When the shoe is on the other foot, they cry "opportunism"
