Which once great bands or artists do you think lost their edge and now belong in pop purgatory? Do you agree with our Smash or trash choices?
keep musis live
boyzone need to be called 'menzone' as they were mediocre then but even worse now.
I'm not a Cliff Richard fan but in defence of him, some facts. Number one singles in 5 different decades,(apart from Elvis who else has managed that?), the largest entry in the Guiness book of hit singles, sell out tours in big venues, yes, even recently, "very good" reviews with respect to those tours, a reputation as an outstanding live performer, (even at his age!) and consistently good record sales. You may not like his music, that's personal taste, but what he does, he does consistently well. (For proof, just listen to the quality of the production on his recordings, it is truly outstanding!)This may not be popular with some rather intolerant people but he is probably a "national art treasure".
Music is a wide church, other people have a right to enjoy their music and follow those who make that music without abuse.
As for Elvis, again, I'm not a great fan but he was a massive and charismatic star and a hugely influential figure in the world of music. His sad and untimely death means, quite obviously, no new recordings, it is therefore not possible for him to "lose his edge' as no new recordings, by definition, means that there can be no evidence of a decrease in the quality of his work.
Finally, avid fans of one band or another screaming abuse at each other is all a rather sad reflection of an incapacity to hear other peoples views without taking it as a personal slight or insult. Does becoming a devoted fan of a particular band really have to entail embracing a blind devotion that is more extreme than that seen in brainwashed religious cult members? How insane is that attitude? After all, this is music, where is the balance? We are all entitled to like, dislike enjoy or disregard music from any band, singer etc. and express our opinions without avid fans of other bands or forms of music choosing to hurl insults and express what can only be described as "rage", surely this demeans "all" music fans and the music we each love.
The spice girls were never good, just different. At leat some wanted them then, now we have better acts to listen to!
We have to look back for acts that stand the test of time. How many people do you hear who say "Guns n Roses- i listen to their songs now and i have no idea why i liked them so much"
oasis and the foo fighters, you own one album, you own em all. metallica!!! wheres the new album?? arctic monkeys are just **** anyway and amy winehouse is talented but the drugs dont work they just make you worse.... xxxx
