Vocal acrobatics worthy of Mariah Carey here; Tim Buckley's son takes on his father's mantle of wracked self-absorption (and also, tragically, a similarly early death). Rolling Stone mag were right when they gave it three stars – you can't fault Buckley's pluck, but Grace is an album that only hints at greatness.
Thank god he's dead .
What a load of rubbish. Even if he was not a fan of the bands listed he should have enough about him to google what generally people think about the stuff. Half of it is listed in pretty much every "Best 100 cds of all time", "Most influencial cds of all time" etc. To say that thery are overated is just ridiculous. Grace FFS! Stone Rosed FFS?! I could go on.......
Dear Virgin Media, In future when you post these articles could you please get somebody who has a clue what the F**k they are talking about to write them.
p.s. admittedly i agreed with the first two entries: oasis, stone roses. not bad albums by any stretch, but not really "up there". maybe that's why this article left me so disappointed; it showed initial promise.
i assume that this article was intended to be provocative rather than informative or insightful. "grace" and "horses" clearly deserve their great status, and yes we can remember other tracks off the patti album. redondo beach is a classic, for example. in fact asking if anyone remembered any songs other than gloria was particularly stupid since there is essentially a title track on the track "land", a sort of 3 song medley of which the first part is "horses". so well done on the review there. did you just find a list of great albums somewhere and not bother listening them?
the inclusion of coldplay (and probably their worst album too) and keene(?) made me laugh A LOT. which of your friends claimed these were highly-rated to begin with? the streets? oh dear...
this could have been a geniunely interesting article. instead it was eye-rollingly ridiculous.
if you decide to do a follow-up, how's this:
sex pistols - never mind the bollocks
rolling stones - exile on main st
nirvana - nevermind
sonic youth - daydream nation
radiohead - ok computer
ramones - rocket to russia
beach boys - pet sounds
beatles - revolver
black flag - damaged
primal scream - screamadelica
(yes, this is following the "provocative", i.e. competely wrong route that i assumed the author took!)
