1. Have a personal issue

Whether it's a dead spouse (cue Daniel Evans) or a troubled past (Shayne Ward), in order to get the public voting in their droves you must ensure you have some kind of terrible personal issue to endure. And talk about it at every available opportunity. The more personal and the more heart-wrenchingly tragic the better. Remember, the people of Britain love an underdog.

    I recks I might go for X Factor 2009 but I don't have much of a sad story so maybe it might only be my voice and background performance that I can rely on with no driving, motivating factor.
