It didn’t even begin until 1963

Between 1960 and 1963 the charts were dominated by middle of the road crooning purveyed by jumper-wearing men like Pat Boone, Perry Como and Bobby Vinton and light jazz for cocktail parties. Elvis had sold his soul to Hollywood and the most dangerous artist of the era was Cliff Richard. The Beatles changed everything, of course, but at least one-third of the decade’s music is utter pish.

I am surprised the reviewer as still got a job, his gaffer Sir Richard was on is way to his 1st million by end of the sixties and all because of it's muisic. Without the music of the sixties he my never have become the greatest busnessman this coutry as produced.

RAP is rubbish !!! It certainly is NOT music despite being flogged as such by presenters. It is in fact POETRY which is recited to an iambic pentameter or some such rythmn. It is only included in music shows because the BBC have to include a broad ethnic inclusivity. Reggae is music but RAP IS RUBBISH !!!

It always seems such a shame that today's musical "experts" can never bother to research before hammering their computer keys. Ask many of the stars of the 70s & 80s who was their main influence, and they'll say Buddy Holly, who died in 1958; hardly squares with nothing prior to 1963, does it? To illustrate how moronic the above statement is, turn it on its head; if 1/3 was poor, then 2/3 was not, and 67% was way above pass level in any exam that I sat. The artists, at the time of the 60s, had only their voices with which to get the fans' approval; sexy gyrations, and display of underwear, were unheard of. Going by the vibrations, from cars that pass by my house, daily, success is to be judged, these days, on how many people can be driven to deafness, and, as far as I can see, "rap" is the only word, in the English language, where the "c" is silent.

Yes there was a lot of rubbish in the sixties but that was not all that was going on. Prior to the sixties you had no local radio stations and you were forced to listen to the rubbish that the Light, Home and world service from the BBC and for about 2 hours at night you had Luxemborg until about 9 oclock when it started to fade. It was the first time that you were able to take the music with you with a transistor radio and listen to Pirate radio stations that played the music that the young of the time wanted to listen to. It was the time in history that changed the whole of the music forum which led to the thousands of local stations you have today.
