It didn’t even begin until 1963

Between 1960 and 1963 the charts were dominated by middle of the road crooning purveyed by jumper-wearing men like Pat Boone, Perry Como and Bobby Vinton and light jazz for cocktail parties. Elvis had sold his soul to Hollywood and the most dangerous artist of the era was Cliff Richard. The Beatles changed everything, of course, but at least one-third of the decade’s music is utter pish.

As a guitarist I find cover versions of 60s & 70s songs by today's talentless hacks embarassing( played by session musicians cos they can't play anything themselves) They can't be compared to Jimi Hendrix, Neil Diamond, Beatles, Elton John, Queen etc etc etc etc. To COPY others is not talent ! I can do that very well myself.

sixties music is still the best . Its genearally performed by groups that can do clever things ....like play musical inrstruments . Most of the current crop would struggle to play a tamborine or even a triangle .
The current batch of slut rock " artists "rely on good looks and showing as much flesh as possible to make up for a total lack of talent .
None of them will be remembered at all in 5 years and the musical garbage they produced will end up in the dustbin where it belongs .

I agree that the 1960s was a great era for pop music, some of the stuff, and performers have remained legends to this day because they changed music itself. They caused music to evolve well beyond what had been acceptable until then. However, I do think that much of the music today is pretty souless, boring, naff, and drivel.
Doesnt it say something that the most popular musicals of the last 30 odd years have been Grease, and now Mamma Mia? It tells you something, doesnt it?
