It didn’t even begin until 1963

Between 1960 and 1963 the charts were dominated by middle of the road crooning purveyed by jumper-wearing men like Pat Boone, Perry Como and Bobby Vinton and light jazz for cocktail parties. Elvis had sold his soul to Hollywood and the most dangerous artist of the era was Cliff Richard. The Beatles changed everything, of course, but at least one-third of the decade’s music is utter pish.

I started getting into The Beatles in 1977 at age 10 (very unfashionable!) and within 2 years had become a fan of not just 60s music (Who,Small Faces) but the clothes too. The decade had the most incredible music including all that glorious Stax & motown. Even nowadays, the only songwriter who consistantly betters his already impressive backlist is Paul Weller;his attitude and style is 60s-based and puts to shame all new-comers. My first copy of the Beatles Revolver was aquired early 1979,and what's next to my hi-fi now? My mono copy picked up around '85.What did the Freak Brothers say?
"F*** the eighties, let's bring back the sixties!" Right-on ,brother.
