Between 1960 and 1963 the charts were dominated by middle of the road crooning purveyed by jumper-wearing men like Pat Boone, Perry Como and Bobby Vinton and light jazz for cocktail parties. Elvis had sold his soul to Hollywood and the most dangerous artist of the era was Cliff Richard. The Beatles changed everything, of course, but at least one-third of the decade’s music is utter pish.
So its ok for the author to say the music is pish but its not ok for me to call him (it is a him) a total dick. Watch this message dissappear.
Well I certainly made a big mistake there...as for the 60's...journalist nukes it & gets paid.for the article?...where do you think the inspiration for so much future music came from - or did Oasis, etc get their ideas out of a Cornflakes box?
I must agree with Andy.. What kind of question is that anyway? Many musical legends were created in the freedom of the 1960's due to the diverse thinking of the time. Sadly such free thinking appears to have died in recent decades as the majority of so called artists rely on a few half dressed, curvy women dancing around on the video in the hope that it will distract the ears from the lack of musical talent it took to write. There are a few exceptions, and they are the bands inspired by... You guessed it.. The 1960's!! But thanks for asking the question anyway!
who's to say whether music's good or bad - it's up to the individual!
All I can see on the 70's report is a journalist who has been given a piece to write - who cares!
I grew up in the 70's - where's mention of David Cassidy & his ilk...Bay City Rollers, etc?
I hated it that type of music - others loved it....roll on Rock and Roll..didn't have time for the original boy bands & girly crushes.
hey - nobody's perfect but at least we still remember the music of that era!
What's the matter . Was my last message so near the truth that you decided to delete it! I've been through all the messages; no sign of it. Must have touched a nerve eh!
Oh well, judging by all the other comments sent in by people that KNOW about music, your job as a music reviewer is about as precarious as a lemming near a cliff.
