Is hip hop "wrong" for Glastonbury?

Is hip hop

Noel Gallagher has slated the inclusion of hip hop at this year's Glastonbury Festival, blaming it for an apparent slump in ticket sales. "If it ain't broke don't fix it", Gallagher explained, adding: "If you start to break it then people aren't going to go. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go 'Kylie Minogue?' I don't know about it. But I'm not having hip hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."

Do you agree with Noel? Does hip hop have a place on Glastonbury's line-up, and is a headline appearance from Jay-Z responsible for slow ticket sales?

I'm going to Glasto this year but I will be as far away from any hip-hop as possible.

To say Jay Z is undeserved is a bit unfair... Glasto management have chosen Jay Z over the Commons/Mos Def because they wanted his fans money. Maybe if he wasn't touring with Linken park they would have achieved this. Someone in management quarters didn't tie down the finer details of the mans contract me thinks.

Traditionally Glastonbury is a guitar based festival, but I see nothing wrong in having a bit of variation now and again. I myself am not really a fan of hip hop as it is nowadays, it's shallow and egotistical, original hip hop i can get into, or the hip hop with something to say. I think why there is an uproar is because it is Jay-Z, a particularly bad and undeserved rapper. If it was someone doing it a bit differently or deserved the opportunity to be there, it would be better, but as it's Jay-Z, my vote is a no.

Hip hop is more than music. Hip Hop is cross cultural, not only the music but the way you walk, talk, dress & act. It is a state of mind for an entire generation. 30 years strong we are the HIP HOP generation.
