Noel Gallagher has slated the inclusion of hip hop at this year's Glastonbury Festival, blaming it for an apparent slump in ticket sales. "If it ain't broke don't fix it", Gallagher explained, adding: "If you start to break it then people aren't going to go. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go 'Kylie Minogue?' I don't know about it. But I'm not having hip hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
Do you agree with Noel? Does hip hop have a place on Glastonbury's line-up, and is a headline appearance from Jay-Z responsible for slow ticket sales?
If people desire to attend a hip hop stage, then they have the prerogative to listen to it. Glasto should be about different genres and choice, however, you wouldn't get me to listen over my dead body.
The thing is Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go 'Kylie Minogue?' I don't know about it. But I'm not having hip hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
No way, Glastonbury is about music! We were curious as to why we got tickets with no problems. Says a lot when some tickets are still available. We will keep away from the hip hop stage, will be plenty of good music to listen to.
I think if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you start to break it then people aren't going to go. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. That's just my opinion on the matter.
Glastonbury isn't just about what kinds of music - over the 30 years its been going, it has celebrated diversity and tolerance in bothe music and lifestyles. Hip hop doesn't - time and again it shows itself to be against these values, being sexist, racist and homophobic. But I say Yes, JayZee and hip hop should appear - they're their own worst advert.
