With an all-star cast and Lost co-creator JJ Abrams directing, will Star Trek XI satisfy the show's highly critical fans, or will the Trekky boots prove too big to fill?
Lets just hope that this film breaks the cycle.
Up until now every odd numbered Star Trek film has been pants. The Motion Picture was the biggest pile of rubbish, follwed by (V)The Final Frontier, then (III) The Search For Spock, then (IX) Insurrection and finally (VII) Generations. ALL of the even number films have been great... with (X) Nemesis, the odd one out here.
But on a positive note, the actors cast for this film are very competent actors, in the trailers, they seem to know what they are doing and the choicest special effects seem to make up the rest.
Well here is hoping that number 11 is a smash and the one that breaks the curse.
If the question means, 'will it create a huge media buzz and have super SFX etc?' then yes. I'm not a killjoy so long as people & film makers don't get too carried away with all the 'whistles & bells ' modern day technology can do. only need to look at original series to recognise how it relied on SCRIPTS (well thought out and developed particularly characters).
Star Trek XI (i.e. ELEVEN!!) - it's like 'Halloween' & 'Police Academy' franchises now - lost count there; any takers for StarTrek XII?
Before any 'Trekkies' turn the 'Wrath of their Keyboards' at me, let me say the production does look very polished and Abrams's track record should hold this in very good stead; It looks impressive.
on a PERSonAL level I admit I do get annoyed at prequels, etc, It's something USA audiences in particular seem to crave. The whole point of the best films, plays, books are they REVEAL things to you, they do not (have to) SHOW verbatim; it relies on your IMAGINATIon and ACCEPTANCE. Why do I have to be shown life before Star Trek? Since my earliest memories as a little boy - I remember at times thinking what were Kirk's & crews' lives were beforehand & why we never saw them return to earth, but I never thought I MUST see/know it all - bits of info were revealed over the years and has always been part of the story fabric, the whole magic & mystery. For me all these prequels and sequels deny us seeing characters 'ride off into the sunset' - The End. For me, Star Trek VI was the perfect point to finish.
I've found myself looking at the trailers a few times which is a good sign.
I can instantly tell who the characters are by sight without having to look too close - Spock being the obvious one.
I think it will be hit as it pairs the much cherished first crew from their TV shirt-wearing days with todays modern cinema technology.
I'm sure Gene Roddenberry would have loved todays effects, and, it's down to him that we're getting this film in the first place.
Gene told so many good stories with the original Star Trek series, but, you could tell it was only TV money he had to work with - and it showed.
Hopefully, this movie will put that right.
It certainly looks as though no expense has been spared in putting it together.
And Tracy he may be a WEIRDO, but at least he can spell.
The guy below me is a complete and utter wierdo
