With road accidents the biggest cause of death among 15 to 24-year-olds, there is a move to put safe driving on the national curriculum. Do you think motoring safety be taught at school or left to the experts at driving schools?
Would it not be better to put basic first aid on the NC. Most children now will become drivers and if involved in an accident could be able to save someone elses life.
safe driving taught in schools
most wagon drivers failed everything at school thats why they drive wagons
A lot of my friends are teachers, and I used to be a school Governor in a touch inner city school.
Teachers hands are tied with red tape as we know,(discipline ect) and even more red tape that you dont know about (exam pass marks ect). I know first hand how hard it is to get kids to meet the governments "one size fits all, exam criteria" and its little wonder that, given the amount of crap parents who dont spend time with their kids on things like reading ect,and generally have no parenting skills other than to have been fertile in the past. Its no wonder we have a national average of 33% of 11 year olds cant read to their age ability.
You now want to have "driving" as a national vocation?..........lets be honest, given the decline of education, and rising cost of petrol, how are the kids of tomorrow ever going to get a job that allows them to buy a car never mind afford the petrol to put in it!!
seems a good idea on the surface, but who is going to do the teaching? There are very few really accomplished driving instructors as it is. There are too many driving instructors who have scant knowledge of the finer points of driving.
It would probably be more beneficial if the minimum driving age for any type of motorised vehicle were to be increased to 21.
Its is more likely to be used in everyday life than Religious Education which most kids feel is a waste of time. At least children might learn something at school then. They dont seem to learn much at the minute!

Should motoring safety be added to the national curriculum?
