With road accidents the biggest cause of death among 15 to 24-year-olds, there is a move to put safe driving on the national curriculum. Do you think motoring safety be taught at school or left to the experts at driving schools?
Yes. I have just seen on the news that a family has been ripped apart by a drink driver. The Father and Son have died due to careless driving and total disregard for others safety. My heart goes out to that family and all other familes whose lives are destroyed by such drivers. It is too easy for someone to get behind the wheel of a car. It is not just education that is needed in schools it is respect for others that needs to be taught. I realize it is not easy to add driving to the list of subjects but surely it has to be one of the most important. Maybe they should also raise the age that you pass your driving test. I have always thought that it was amazing how you can not drive on a motorway during a lesson but you can go on the motorway when you pass your test. When do they learn how to drive on a motorway? This is a serious issue and needs to be resolved.
How bloody ridiculous. It will have the same effect as giving sex education lessons to younger and younger children, has no one noticed how as the younger the age has become the younger the children that are getting pregnant becomes. Didn’t this government introduce ‘citizenship’ lessons to help our young miscreants become better citizens! Like that has really worked hasn’t it! Now let’s teach them to drive at school oh sure I can imagine just how this will turn out, it will be just as successful as sex education and citizenship. What they need is lessons in self discipline, self respect, and respect for others, surprisingly they will also need the ability to communicate in English (just look at any number of these posts for examples of that).
By the standard of some of the comments on here...
How about teaching them the three R's first. When they do that to a reasonable standard then think about adding other things.
Neither for or against!
yh but it shouldnt be taking 2 much tym up but in the form lessons it should be taught
Why not?,its a lifeskill and a valid one for when young people do begin driving.

Should motoring safety be added to the national curriculum?
