With road accidents the biggest cause of death among 15 to 24-year-olds, there is a move to put safe driving on the national curriculum. Do you think motoring safety be taught at school or left to the experts at driving schools?
I dont think it should be part of the school curriculum unless the final exam result goes on to allowing the pupil to take the driving test, ie no school exam pass makes it harder for them to be able to learn to drive, yes this would be expensive to implement but what is expense against loss of life or injury?
The cost of implementing it would be clawed back from the cost of the driving lessons and test and the hopefully lessened insurance payouts caused by inexperienced driver mistakes or stupidity (which ever way you choose to look at it).
Motorway driving also needs to be addressed you cant drive on a motorway with ''L'' plates but pass your test and onto the fast driving motorway you go with no instruction on how to use this now unusual driving manner safely!
The biggest lesson that needs to be taught is RESPECT and DISCIPLINE as these are the two neccesities when driving!
Respect for the Highway code and other drivers right to use the road and Discipline on the road where other road users are concerned something that is missing these days from a mojority of road users!
Motoring safety should be made part off the school curriculum. This would show the dangers and upset that inexperienced drivers can cause on our roads and hopefully make better drivers out of them.
Yes, at least the kids learn something useful, there is no rush and they can have a better understanding of the responsibility they are taking on.
Who are these wet lettuce liberal minded do-gooders that come up with these stupid ideas which circumvent the ," obvious to the rest of us" problems and answers , whether it be loutish behaviour/laddettes/thieving /mugging/street violence , etc , etc , these are the problems ,and the large majority of the time the answers are plainly obvious, more "PROPER" discipline , discipline , discipline, and that doesn't mean something they see as a badge of honour to get some 'street cred' and wear with pride , it means punishment which makes the perpetrator not do that action ! From that will come RESPECT , of which they clearly have NonE , resulting from a feeling of impunity and disrespect for "everybody" and everything , official or even personal to them !!! Just imagine the havoc created by only small numbers with the thoughts slotted into their minds , that they can now drive ! We all know the frequency of parents cars disappearing off the drive etc etc will increase dramatically.......what about the innocents who through no fault of their own , pay the cost in the loss of a family member , let alone the long term financial costs for eveybody ? Its bad enough now , what utter folly , don't make it any worse. Also the financial cost to impliment and maintain this idea would be tremendous , mmmm hopefully that will make it non-viable !
