Recent revelations that an unusually high percentage of all car accidents are involving those under 20 years old have reawakened calls to raise the driving test age from 17 to 18 and even higher. Is 17 old enough to be able to drive safely on the roads? Or would a change in the law help reduce the number of road accidents? Tell us what you think.
The age should now be raised. Why should the few idiots that speed/drink drive/drive eratically spoil it for the rest of us. I have had 5 years no claims and have never been in trouble and I am 22. It should be down to the person, 3 points and you're banned for a year, there should be zero tolorance, to EVERYonE. To be honest, when I'm driving its middle aged women in landrovers and old people driving down the wrong lanes of motorways who we should be more cautious of!
i think the age is ok but they should change it so that u can only drive a car with a 1.2 or smaller engine and you can not drive on the motorway for the first 12 months.
also they should make it so old people have to be retested after 70 because they are just as bad.
Thinking back to when I was 17; me and most of my mates should all have been banned from driving until we were 21...lads have all their brains in the c..ks at that age. Girls are usually gifted with brains that actually work...well with some exceptions. I say 17 for girls and 21 for boys; banned until 25 if they are caught in a Saxo with an exhaust as big as the cavity between their ears! We could simply restrict the speed/power of vehicles they are allowed to drive, that would be easier.
I'm 15 not 155! lol
Hi, i'm 155 and can't wait to drive even now! I dream of having a small hatchback that i can drive around in and customize to my liking (like a robin reliant) and if i have to wait any more than 2 years I will be very annoyed. It's not the age, it's the way they treat other drivers that matters, when i am in the car with ma Father i see all sorts of lunies driving on the motorway using wrong lanes and undertaking and stuff and they are around 40! so its the way you treat driving that matters not the age.
