With news today that 71% of British employees travel to work by car, and that those in the north-west of England have the most dangerous journeys to work by road, we want to know about your commuting experiences. How long does it take you to get to work? What’s the worst experience you’ve had? Share your commuting nightmares.
I live within 15 mins of my place of work,I can remember a time when I did not,but even then I did not have to put up with what some have to.I recently visited London, and I thank my lucky stars that I don,t have to contend with what the local populace have to with regards to traffic, congestion etc,its a madhouse down there.Congestion in towns and cities is the pits, but when public transport is a joke too then on what can you rely?.it,s high time all public transport was back in public ownership and state controlled. No moneygrabbing shareholders and middlemen.Sadly though its these people who have all the investment cash to float because the poxy government won,t,its all talk with them because they don,t have to use it.If i had to run a virtual gauntlet to get to work,I would not be doing it for long because I,d get another job, life is far too short to be sat in traffic or doing a Reggie Perrin on the sardine tins on rails, sorry trains.Far too short.
Nationalise the rail industry. Get more freight travelling by night. Free up the roads, with roadworks overnight not in the daytime. Put tolls on vehicles carrying less than their maximum payload. Kick out immigrants, who got their licences in Rangoon. Get prisoners working on the state of the roads and ditches, in chain gangs. Cap fuel prices. That's about it for now. Oh, bin speed cameras....and sack the government.
Why don't they operate a 24 hr bus service, 7 days a week? the people like myself who start at 6am will then have an early bus to catch, instead of relying so much on my car... its not rocket science is it? also the Sunday service would do well during the daytime as iis as busy now on a Sunday as a Saturday (well, round my way it is anyway!!)
When an American expresses the opinion that the days of the private car are numbered we should all listen and more importantly be prepared. An increase in production will only be a temporary fix and of course lead to oil reserves dwindling at a faster rate - it is no use whining when rationing is introduced
i am a security officer who works in the plymouth area try geting a first **** or city bus before 6am at the weekend its a joke in fact try and get a bus before 6am on a week day in plymouth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
