Figures suggest that Britain is the Gatso capital of Europe, do you think that these cameras are just another way to cream money from motorists? Or are they a tool for preventing fatal road accidents? According to Swindon Borough Council, they may not be the best way to make roads safer. What do you think?
Just another of buffoon browns taxes
I agree with them only when they are put in areas where Speed has contributed to Fatal and Injury accidents.
I have to say that most of them are not used like this.
The first thing you need to do is define speeding. 3mph over? 5? how many driver drift between 30-35 in a 30 zone? should that be classed as speeding? Then you need to ask do speed camera's deter those who deliberatly speed? (no as they are the ones who have have camera detection equipment i there car then slow down by one, them speed up!) Then you need to ask "why only detect speed?" you need to look at road safety as a whole like distance between vehicles, why have powerful cars that can do 154+ mph??? you can leagally only do 70 on a motorway!!.
DO i support them ... NO! - nothing but a tax on motorists. There are many ways to calm traffic without hitting those who do not speed deliberatly.
I do 35000 miles a year and try to stay within the speed limits but I now face going to court for my fourth offence in less than three years and never doing more than 5 miles per hour over the limit on any of them, I have maximum no claims bonus and have had it for at least 25 years so I think I qualify as a safe driver yet I now face losing my licence and my job, at the age of 61 I will be unemployable so will become a burden on the state. Still I've paid enough tax that they owe me something, incidentally have voted Labour all my life, have been a councillor, Mayor and constituency president but will be joining Plaid Cymru.
def cash machines nothing to do with safetey another tax and then comes the green tax whas it blaire who said taxation taxation taxation
