Figures suggest that Britain is the Gatso capital of Europe, do you think that these cameras are just another way to cream money from motorists? Or are they a tool for preventing fatal road accidents? According to Swindon Borough Council, they may not be the best way to make roads safer. What do you think?
dont speed dont pay ......best gatso's are those vandalised ones covered in blue paint tho....lol
unfortunately, the speed camera lobby has led tried to constantly repeat the mindless mantra 'speed kills', without looking at the actual research that shows that the statistics cannot support this simplistic notion.Inappropriate speed can kill, undoubtedly, but more than this is the host of poor drivers on the road who drink/take drugs whilst drive,or who have no licenses or have got their friends to pass the test for them.Speed cameras will not detect these people...traffic officers will and they have been cut massively over the past 10-15 years, whilst the accountants reduce road safety to an economic issue, where the motorist is being targetted with devices that have been proved by various motor magazines to be innacurate, unreliable, used incorrectly,or not calibrated correctly. We could fund a massive rise in special traffic officers,by fining the dangerous/poor drivers who quite simply have not got a clue how to use their lights properly, how to use the motorway lanes, don't stop at crossings, drive whilst putting on make-up and texting etc. The advantage with officers doing this is that as well as fining these people they can offer advice as appropriate.Simpletons like the chief constable of n.wales 'the ayatollah of speed' as many know him have a relentless policy of focussing on speed to the exclusion of almost anything else and yet the figures on road safety in his area are among the worst in the country....probably because instead of driving reasonably safely, people are having accidents whilst staring at their speedos instead of the road ahead! nosensible person would advocate inappropriate speeding, but lots of the speed cameras are not put in the blackspots, but around bends.and areas guaranteed to catch more people who are guilty of technical infringements where a speed limit arbitarily changes, without the road conditions altering or presenting an increased danger to the public,or the drivers concerned.Yes prosecute aggressively dangerous drivers seriously, but apply common -sense to the vast majority of drivers who are reasonably safe.
IF they didnt speed they wouldnt get caught.
Most drivers drive too fast.
Drivers only have cause to worry if they are speeding and putting the lives of others at risk. Limits are there to help everybody and keep everyone safe. The problems only start of the Gatsos are not working correctly as happened in Durham not long ago when many tickets had to be wiped off.
speed carmera's were ment 4 acceident black spots. most aren't placed there, more than 90%of drivers have broke the speed limit at some time.for most u are un lucky if u get caught.so just ask 4 it.i am an emergance reponse driver and had idots tale gatein me at 100mph +
