Is 20mph too slow?

Portsmouth City Council is slashing the speed limit in residential areas from 30mph to 20mph and other councils are expected to follow suit. Will this save lives or is bureaucracy just killing motoring?

Just makes life more difficult (& dangerous) for pedestrians trying to cross the road. Why? Because vehicle occupancy of the road has just increased by a third! As others have observed, a convenient excuse to attempt 'congestion charging' - caused by the flamin' councils, themselves!

thought we were getting short of fuel.20mph to slow. means everybody driving in lower gears, would be using more fuel. 30 mph more realistic.is this another way to get us off the roads.

Bring it on, I would gladly have this brought in then maybe, Just maybe, I could relax a bit each time my kids walk to school, shops or their freinds whilst showoffs who seem to lap the city center for no apparent reason head out of town to float their ego's

steve from Bournemouth if you are a driving instructor which from your comments seems unlikely. You are a total disgrace to the trade.

This is not to protect pedestrians this is to cause a build up of traffic so the can introduce a congestion charge. Another Rip Off.
