Is 20mph too slow?

Is 20mph too slow?

Portsmouth City Council is slashing the speed limit in residential areas from 30mph to 20mph and other councils are expected to follow suit. Will this save lives or is bureaucracy just killing motoring?

Janet from Birmingham you say 20 is a safe speed for the built up areas. Can you please explain the facts on which this sweeping statement of yours is made?

20mph is fast enough on single small roads and built up areas with housing estates - also single country roads that are 'national speed limit' should be lowered to 40mph - a typical example of this would be the A1071 near Ipswich, this road should be 40mph all the way.
