Is 20mph too slow?

Portsmouth City Council is slashing the speed limit in residential areas from 30mph to 20mph and other councils are expected to follow suit. Will this save lives or is bureaucracy just killing motoring?

good idea but why stop there. Lower the speed limit on motor ways to 50 max so long as this includes the royals and politicians. Lets also put the police back on push bikes instead of sitting in cars. They can always call up for a chase car if required.

Why stop at 20 MPH ? . Get out the red flags and let all of the
building workers, estate agency staff along with the car builders
and sales staff find work walking in front of a car waving a flag and blowing a whistle, all paid for by the government .
This would also provide much needed jobs for the flag and banner industries as well as work for the whistle makers .

20MPH should only be set outside schools, hospitals and care homes, if you make it too general it gets ignored and loses it's impact.
Speed is a minor factor in causing accidents but a major one in terms of damage and injury caused by them however, with some people the two go hand in hand, they just don't have the experience/knowledge to handle it.
