With some car taxes set to double within a year, do you think the Chancellor's 2007 Budget is fair to car drivers?
What I and I suspect most motorists object to is not just that the amount of tax we pay on fuel is far higher than in other countries in the EU, but it doesn't even get used for what this tax should be for in the firs place, namely maintaining the uk's roads. This year across the uk only 5 billion was allotted for maintenance of the road network, which sounds like a lot, but actually isn't once it is spread across the country and considering the amount raised in Vehicle Excise Duty is around seven times that amount. Unfortunately, the Government do not appear to appreciate the huge impact their motoring taxes have on a normal family and I suspect the other political parties would not lower the motorist's tax burden if they got in either, as it is just too easy a cash cow for them.
Stu..........
I agree with every word you said...................
new labour 4 the workers.what f###ing crap. maggie got blamed 4 bringin briton 2 its knees ; watch this space !!!!!!!!!
The government seem to think that money grows on trees. They want more road tax more council tax every year more on petrol and for what.....
I think they are trying to bankrupt us all. What is the point of raising interest rates to cut spending. This means shops now dont make money and people who have credit are now paying loads back in interest so we are paying more out than we were before but not to buisnesses nowwe are paying the banks.
People have had revolutions over much less......
Brown and his bunch of highway robbers, are always looking for ways to screw the motorist out of more money, I think he has realised that even he cannot raise tax on fuel any more, so the next move is to raise the road tax , Dick Turpin had the good grace to wear a mask!!
