US adopts Euro

The United States is to abolish the dollar and adopt the euro, according to a surprise announcement by the US Department of Monetary Policy. What do you think of this controversial move?

I'm surprised but if the US is to adopt the Euro, it seems more likely that Britain will also adopt the Euro eventually. The Tories for instance are more favourable towards an idea when the US goes for it. I remember when William Hague planned to join the North American economic community which included Mexico, Canada and USA if he had become Prime Minister. If USA, then Canada adopts it and William Hague got his way and we joined that group, either Britain would be on the wayside like Mexico - unless she joins the Euro zone as well - or we join it.

Incidently, the Russians for years have been using dollars. Now it seems more likely the Russians as well as the East Europeans will eventually adopt the Euro & do away with their own national currency and probably Turkey as well.
