April from Bristol, well said. I agree with everything you say... we are just a couple with no kids as yet but we believe in buying stuff outright as oppossed to the 'never, never'.
I admire your determination and strength... there are far too many people that would just give in and get a huge loan and just blow it all in a day, just to get their kids the latest top or trainers, and the ps3/ wii / plasma telly etc.
I think everyone is feeling the pinch now, but the people that will be hit the hardest are the credit junkies, as their bills catch up with them.
I agree asda does some good clothes (george etc) infact my swimming trunks I got from asda for £6 fit me perfectly, look good and are better value than say marks and spencer or any other leading stores that would sell you less quality for a bigger price - just because of a 'name'.
Hang in there April - just remember the folk glued up in credit debt - sure they may drive a nice car or live in a big house... but inside the tears will be flowing LOL ;-)
I see you are all on Line , How do you all aford the expense and a laptop. Best tip is not to have a credit card that's where the banks make loads of money. Make do and mend. O.A.P. like us.
Stick tae Jamie Olivers £5 quid dinners,£35 smash aroonies for a wk yae cannae beat that wae a hot poker eh!!
P.S. It is easy to get buy without credit, every thing i own i brought out right.
I had to sit on a nackered second hand sofa for 18months, whilst slowly saving up to buy a sofa, i felt so brilliant the day it was delivered knowing i owned it, the same with pretty much every thing i had in my home 3 yrs ago, i just had to swallow my pride when i had visitors!
Im single parent with toddler recieving income support, no need to slag everyone on benefits off, i didn't ask my patner to leave us in the crap and never pay for his own child, some of us count down the days till the littl'un starts education so we can work. You tend to find a million ways to get by on a tight budget when you don't have a choice
!only use washing machine when you have full load, only use tumble dryer in an emergency as it canes electric.
!Buy the fruit, veg, bread ec. that are on offer each week. Plus if you ever stop for a cheap coffee when your out, pocket a large handfull of milk and sugar sachets, that way you have a back up just incase.
!Don't give in to pestering kids, just because their ' friends have got one', their friends will end up being in debt when they grow up as they dont know the value of money.
!Yes we know that asda's clothes are not the named brand they want, but they are cheap and they actualy have quite nice kids clothes, shop without the kids and take lables off before you get home, they will never know!
As far as tv license, insurance, water bills and so on, you just have to take a deep breath, immobalise your hand so you cant cling on and hand your money over, the water bill is definatley the biggest mickey taker for me though!
