As food and fuel prices rise and the standard of living falls, economists are warning that we could face the toughest economic climate since the 1970s. Are you concerned that we’ll all be on the breadline before long?

We are not heading for recession.
If we were Santander would not buy up a big mortgage company. We have around 17 months left of things being a bit tight, a few food items have gone up, but most have hardly moved.
Price rises of an average of 1.81% over 10 years is WOW ridiculously low and Europe is so so jealous! And we all live great lives, dont throw it all away you fools.
who givs a shut. im in councl flat on dole so i think it good other basteds are suffrin now lol
Remember Black Wednesday and the recession of the early 1990s?
Five million unemployed, negative equity, etc... etc... etc?
Believe me people, that recession never ended!
New Labour only created the impression that it had ended by letting thousands of people who had been bullied into incapacity benefit from JSA stay there to rot.
New Labour only created the impression that it had ended by boosting consumer and business confidence with lunatic policies making it easy for people to accumulate massive debts.
New Labour only created the impression that it had ended by boosting consumer and business confidence with lunatic policies making it easy for people to walk away from massive debts.
Most people who were over 40 and unemployed at the time of the 1990s recession found it extremely difficult to get back into work - most of them are still unemployed and being stigmatised and criminalised for it.
What am I saying?... the sticking-plaster used to cover up the 1990s recession has now peeled away to reveal the fact that we have been there all the time.
See you on the breadline!
but the rich will get richer all the time ............. they will buy up more houses ......you can bet on that ...
We are all getting poorer, if your rich your not so hard done by as you can ride the hard times. There are many who will be having little or no pay rise and with inflation rising, it will hit those most. Maybe there should be more food production here, maybe using more of our own oil, maybe not closing the mines would have helped. There are so many things which govern the economy of the country and i'm no economist, but I know harder times are coming and I dont like the idea of doom and gloom, STOP THE PLANET I WANT TO GET OFF.!!
