Credit and debit card fraud has risen by 25% in the last year. Banks say losses amount to £535m. Have you been a victim? Do the government and banks do enough to combat the problem?
Just found out that my card has been used in India,Malaysia and the Phillipines in the last few days.I have not let the card out of my sight and is always in my wallet.Hardly eve use the internet.I spoke with the investigation man on the phone at Nationwide and he said that money had been taken out on my previous card and my new card which I have had for 3 weeks si it seems to me like it must be somewhere local that I use regualary like my corner shop... Nationwide said that they will put the money back in (about £300) but not for a few days which is a pin as I am going holiday tomorrow!!
on the 5th oct 2008 my card was cloned at a petrol station in leicester
it was the kind of pump that you use your credit card with
they have racked up a £1000 on my barclaycard ranging from countries like USA Penang Tokyo etc all in the same day
Yes returned from holiday to find a letter had arrived from bank telling me of their suspicions of my card being used fraudently. My bank statements confirmed that some robbing git from Brazil had taken money from my bank account. Two attempts were made, one succesful and one had failed.I telephoned the fraud squad straight away and my card was blocked immediately.Had to fill forms in.After 1 week the bank refunded my money with grovelling apology as thankfully they belived i was a genuine victim of credit card fraud. The person who stole my money had used an ATM machine so i believe that my card had been cloned.I have had to change card details and pin number and i refuse to use outdoor ATM machine or shop online. This week i heard that theives are targeting ATMS at petrol stations to clone cards and the day i went on holiday i withdrew money from A PETROL STATIon so i believe my card was cloned there.Be very careful because credit card fraud is on the rise.I am very cautious now.
Yes the interest charged is daylight robbery!
Yes. Lucky for me the Bank picked it up as an 'unusual' transaction. Someone in the States tried to buy music from I-Tunes. They reckon it was a trial first attempt with a small amount of money, and if they'd got away with it they'd have tried something bigger.
