Drinkers and smokers have borne the brunt of Alistair Darling’s first budget. Could the Chancellor have done more to help the economy? Should more have been spent on health and education? Should he rich be paying more taxes or should taxes be cut all round? Tell us what you think.
Did not even know there was a Budget,
I have just switched off from it all.
i thought the pensioners would moan. they should count themselves lucky, they get; pension, heating allowance, free travel, free prescriptions, concessions on entertainment, reduced tv license. i have no income, i DO NOT get, free travel nor do i get heating allowance, concessions, reduced tv license fee. pensioners get more today than they ever did. everything should be means tested as it was years ago. then the really needy would be looked after properly. all the pensioner i personally know are far better off than me, yet they still get everything, while i get nothing.

In the tax policy world everything is perfect.
Everybody leaves school with straight a's goes straight into a job buys their house outright and has photosynthetic cells grafted on to their body so they can live off the suns energy.
what's the point in collecting it if only throw away.
It is a totally unfair tax system you work to pay their salaries and the local council too and they don't do anything except administer your exaction and decide who and what to spend it on. They get a superfluous salary when they can claim for their groceries when everyone else has to pay out of their salaries and unless you have work you're dead you can't have savings and have education for all the tax they raise there is no free education you go into mile deep debt to pay for your own education with or without job pushed to the limit taxed to the hilt and punished for no crime then your mortgage and bills go up like elevator better not to have any money at all. You are either uber-rich and happy being able to pay everything or uber poor and terrified being unable to pay anything.
