Is Britain Europe’s job stress capital?

Is Britain Europe’s job stress capital?

UK employees work longer hours than the rest of Europe and get less bank holidays. Do we place too much importance in our careers in this country and all end up stressed as a result? Do you feel pressured to work too hard? Share your thoughts.

I have found that jealousy is ripe especially when i have managed to secure 3 jobs and have the stamina to do the work of 3 jobs .
People don't want their colleagues to progress or even work for a good standard of living this is a very sad attitude.
We work too many hours because we have too our pay is not enough to afford even basic luxuries.

and why are we in this position? why? why does the rest of europe works less hours? because people don't get paid enough for what they do in this country and so they make you work longer and then for less as the pay don't go up and you can work you're nuts off in this country and then be shown the door! and then you are stuffed! Plus certain jobs don't even fall in within the working time directive so some people can be working for more than the "recommended" 48 hours a week, coach drivers etc transport services etc and they work stressed out and knackered and are responsible for people's life's! working shifts in now very common in this country and people are not designed to be working at night the body is not equipt for it, so sort out the things that matter to people so people can go to work and enjoy it and not have to work under pressure etc etc and face the possbility of loosing their jobs etc etc etc sort out emplyment legistration then maybe people won't be stressed out all the time people deserve quality life and quality employment! Life has changed so much because of technology SPEED FASTER = stress in people's life's! It's time to re-evalate what is important and things sadly in this fine country of ours just keep getting worse year by year!

I could do with more hours to cope with my workload, but they won't give me any more even though I've asked numerous times!! I might not be so stressed if I could fit everything in when I'm suposed to. I see my bosses stressing out because they have too much to do and not enough time to do it all in and it all washes down to me who is somewhere in the middle of it all. They get more oney and more hours than me....So I haven't got a clue where the balance is.

Boy we are good at winging in this country - its rains too much? Its too bloody hot? Too many immigrants taking our jobs? My lord food is so expensive? Perhaps if we all stopped moaning and counted our blessings we could actually see that we dont have it that bad in this country. Beautiful countryside/beaches, stable weather all year round, nice homes for the majority, food and running water for all, no major natural disasters causing mass death, a good british sense of humour, decent people with decent values (well most of us do), democracy, cosy material lifestyles e.g. TVs. Sounds pretty good eh!!! The only thing we do need to get rid of to make this beautiful isle idyllic is to:
    - Ge rid of brown and his corrupt cronies
    - Send all hoodies, dole spongers and moronic idiots to an island in the middle of the atlantic
    - Bring back old fashioned values e.g. actually arresting someone for commiting a crime!!!
    - get rid of the human rights act
    - get rid of PC society
    - Get rid of simon cowell and jade goody
    - Make corrupt business men/bankers accountable for their greed
    - - Bring back spiritual values - e.g. being nice to your neighbour, saying thankyou, smiling, laughing, let people live their own lives their own way

Do we work too many hours?
    No

I think we do work to many hours in britain, but then i don't see that anyone would want to work till 8pm so we could have a ciesta (if thats how you spell it) like the spanish do.
But then if you didn't work we'd be bored wishing we had what the man/women next to you had, in fact i wonder out of how many of us brits know exactly what they want or what they wanted to do. More to the point in the eu work is seen as something to be enjoyed and practiced not just done to earn some money.
In life i find there is always two general ways of thinking about the world we live in go with the flow, or go against the flow. Now if that means i need to start a business to save tax then so be it. If i need to by a car in the eu cause its cheaper then to buy it on our little island then so be it. Or you can moan and wine about everything. And anyways enjoy the money you earn whats left of it after the tax man has come and taken most of it. And if its not enough then think of what you really like doing and be the best at it. Think i'm good a drinking, well in that case become the owner of a pub. Go into beer tasting or wine for that matter.
The possibilities are endless in this little country of ours just look at people on the doll there doing well and the foreign people there doing well. And the people in the middle there doing well lets not mention the people at the top. In fact we all moan about this that and the other and the truth is everyone in this country is doing very well compared to some other countries. And yes we have to work hard and long for it but so be it i'm s in my right to do something and then moan about the fact that i had to do it.
At the end of the day its up to you to make your life better and if your really think its going to be better anywhere else then go for it see if the grass is greener. Or just make the most of what you have or make more, increase your skills and reduce your time. Take life as it comes trust me after finishing two degrees and getting my job i'm thinking of doing a Ph.D as i'm so bored with life. But hey working long hours doing something you love isn't a problem its when you hate your job, which i think most of us do, just look at the pm and mayor (lol).
And i think this attiude of keeping up with the joan's is still there in britain but it needn't be if you looked at life and said what is it i really want, not what that guy on tv has or girl but what i want.
And whats more the main reason everyone work long hours is because of the money, but my fav quote of all time is "Your not wealthy untill you have something money can't buy". So stop working long hours and be happy with what you have.
