Long-term unemployed people will be forced to accept work placements or lose their benefits, the government has warned. Is this unfair on those who have genuine trouble finding work, or do you think it is necessary to stop work-shy layabouts from sponging off the state?
Concerning long term unemployed I think they should be forced to work either voulenteer work or in work schemes. I think it is disgusting when I speak to people who don't work and say things like I would only be £10 better off working so why should I??????? I always say to be a grown up and take care of you and your own..... I think it is great that they have a decent welfare system here, I just wish that these long term unemployed people had more respect for themselves and all of us others that do work........
Susan...... Have you ever thought to do voulenteer work??? When I was forced to leave my job due to circumstances I started to work with a local group and through that I got a lovely job I now love!!!!!! Also it looks better on a CV (or application) when any gaps happen between jobs if you fill your time doing that kind of work......... The best bit is you are helping people in your community and that certainly helps with confedence.
i dont think this means people who try to get jobs and have had jobs then get made reduntant they at least try it means the hard core who have no intenion of working they have two three kids a drink or drug or both problem ask them to do a low paid job or menial job they will laugh at you it was there choice
to self inflicted problems what annoys me most is that they have the most to say about what you do have you not finished that yet its taking a long time what a good job you have got dont know where you get your money from its called work it starts at seven in a morning not after dinner when you get up lazy bastards should be forced to work but the state hand outs let them get away with it
I have been made redundant three times in four years through no fault of my own. All the work is being sent to China and India. I have been on the dole six months this time have applied for jobs roughly twice a week with no luck. At 53 what chance have I got
It depends why they are out off work if they plain spongers and just don,t work because it doesn,t fit in with lives yes. Why should they opt out I agree that the job centres job selections are quite down grading. And offer really unskilled labour for below minum wage. That is unfair if people are expected to work they should have good opertunitys such as learn why you earn, trai nto do something you may be bothered to get up for. I work because I have pride, we should be happy to surport the sick disabled and those who can,t work even if they wanted to. But as for spongers why should they sit on their backsides sure we would all like to do what we wnt and have the money to spend our time enjoying hobbies, holidays shopping. Wake up and smell the coffee its never going to happen unless you win £10 million or so on the lottery. All the spongers should want more surely dole money doesn,t go far.But then again its against human rights to fource anyone to do anything so I say no but should be insentives to get people to want to work and those of us that do should be rewarded by a higher minum wage say starting £8 hour.

Should long-term unemployed be forced to work?
