What perks do you get through your job?

Some jobs are just a job, but others bring all kinds of perks to make the daily grind more bearable. Do you happen to get any welcome bonuses because of your job? What's the best thing you've blagged? Or are you unlucky enough not to get any such benefits?.

I have just come back from a conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand, paid for. I was in Salzburg, Austria, in March at another conference. Again, paid for out of my research budget that I have to bid for in open competition every year. For this, I have to improve my teaching delivery, and publish peer-reviewed academic papers and books. Every penny has to be accounted for. Because of my workload, I often work evenings and weekends to extend my research profile, which I happen to think is worth it. I also have to do increasing loads of admin jobs that clerks and secretaries used to perform before the advent of the mythical 'paperless office', and I get 2 pay rised a year, one the annual pay round and one on the incremental scale until I reach the top of that in 4 years. I never take my full holiday entitlement, but what the heck, I'm not badly done by and I happen to love my job. So, I'm very lucky, and I know I am. But I make my own luck.

Three years, no rise - but my work capacity has increased ten fold - this company has bent me over further than i care to go anymore, and my tax just keeps on going up and up and up, im leaving this job and quitting the country for a better life in a dickensien work house somewhere in the outskirts of rio

I dont have to clock out to go to the toilet anymore and they started letting us walk around the yard once a day for health and safety reasons. They say we'll get a shilling at christmas but i'm not so sure....
