Philip Schofield used his time on kids' TV as a springboard to becoming a sex god of daytime telly. By contrast, Andy Crane used it as a springboard to reading the news on Channel M, a local TV station in Manchester. And to think he was probably paid three times as much to sit in the CBBC Broom Cupboard and chat to Ed the Duck.
Is it time to change your career? You could find your dream job at CareerBuilder
A young man named Robinson applied for an engineering position at an English firm based in Birmingham. A Polish man applied for the same job and both applicants, having the same qualifications, were asked to take a test by the department manager. Upon completion of the test both men had only missed one of the questions. The manager went to Robinson and said, "Thank you for your interest, but we've decided to give the Polish applicant the job."
And why would you do that? asked Robinson. "We both got 9 questions correct. This being England and me being English I should get the job!"
"We have made our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed."
"And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?"
Simple," replied the manager. "on question # 5, the Polish applicant put down, 'I don't know.' You put down 'Neither do I.'"
